This shoe has been reconstructed from leather fragments that were recovered from the moat at Caerlaverock Castle. It has well preserved stitched edges down the side of shoe. This type is likely to date from the 1200s to the 1300s. Over 150 leather shoe soles were recovered during archaeological excavations at Caerlaverock Castle, Dumfries & Galloway, 1955-1966.
