Seal, with a fragment of a late 16th century document attached
This wax seal is the common seal of the Chapter-Melrose and has been detached from a later 16th century document. The seal is oval in shape and made of red wax. It depicts the Virgin and Child with three men in the foreground (Magi?), all set within Gothic architectural features. The red wax has brown wax around it and the document fragment is fixed into this. The document is of vellum or parchment and has traces of inked script on it.
