Mahogany ballot box used by the Corporation of Shipowners and Shipmasters to elect members at Trinity House. The base is fitted with two drawers, labelled YES and NO to receive counters dropped either to the left or right inside the central opening. Tropical tamarind seeds were used as counters at Trinity House rather than black balls commonly used elsewhere. Late 18th century.
