Portrait of Charles II in robes of the Order of the Garter; he was usually represented in his State Robes in later portraits. Charles was the eldest son of Charles I and Henrietta Maria. He was crowned King of Scotland in 1651, but did not become ruler of England until the Restoration of the monarchy in 1660. Oil on canvas, artist unknown after the style of Sir Peter Lely (b.1618, d.1680), late 17th century.
