Half length portrait of John Hay by Sir Henry Raeburn (1756-1823). John Hay, shown in a dark coat and white stock, was Master of the Trinity House for 20 years. He played a leading part in the rebuilding Trinity House, Leith in 1816 and in 1820 obtained an act of the legislature consolidating the Royal Grants in favour of the House.
