Portrait of Admiral Duncan 1st Viscount Duncan of Camperdown
Admiral Duncan (1731-1804) led the British Fleet to Victory against the Dutch at Camperdown in 1797. A National hero, his portrait was commissioned in 1798 by the Incorporation of Ship Masters, Leith. Trinity House, at Admiral Ducan's request, sent Edward Brown, Harbour Master and member of the Incorporation, to serve as an experienced North Sea pilot on board his ship the Venerable. Oil on canvas, Sir Henry Raeburn (1756-1823).
