Elizabeth II (1952- ) half penny, 1953. The obverse shows an uncrowned laureate portrait of Elizabeth II, facing right. The inscription reads ' ELIZABETH II DEI GRA BRITT OMN REGINA'.


The reverse shows a three masted ship, each mast with a flag at the top. The inscription reads 'HALF PENNY 1953.'


Part of a collectors set of pre-decimal coins from 1953.

New coinage was issued alongside the old coins before ‘Decimal Day’ on 15th February 1971. Under the old currency of pounds, shillings and pence, the pound was made up of 240 pence, with 12 pence in a shilling and 20 shillings in a pound. Under the new system, the pound was divided into 100 new pence. New coinage was issued alongside the old coins before ‘Decimal Day’ on 15th February 1971.
