Elizabeth II (1952-), five shillings, 1953. The obverse shows Elizabeth II depicted mounted on a horse, facing left. A Mongram of EIIR is surmounted by crown shown on either side of the horse. The inscription reads 'ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA BRITT OMN REGINA FIDEI DEFENSOR. FIVE SHILLINGS.'

The reverse design shows four sheilds showing the arms of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, surrounding a crown. Between the sheilds are the national plants of the United Kingdom; a rose for England, a shamrock for Ireland, a thistle for Scotland, and a leek for Wales.

To commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 this crown coin was issued. It has a value of Five Shillings, the equivalent of 25 pence post-decimalisation.
