Object Detail

The frame of this brooch is common to both brooches and buckles found in the late 1200s to 1400s. Such forms functioned as brooches, at the necks of garments, or as buckles, to secure hose or breeeches. Found during archaeological excavations at Edinburgh Castle 1989-1991.
