Object Detail

Fragment of timber log boat discovered in 1874 in the River Forth near Cambuskenneth Abbey near Stirling. This boat was flat-bottomed and double-ended. Otherwise known as a dugout canoe, it is a simple and primitive boat, but this does not mean that it is necessarily early, most examples recovered being medieval or later in date.
