Object Detail

Carved stone ball with protruding knobs found at the Neolithic settlement of Skara Brae, Orkney. Similar examples of these intriguing carvings have been found throughout Scotland. Many functions have been suggested but not fully proven, although it is generally agreed that they were prestigious possessions dating from between 3400 and 2000 BC. On loan from The Orkney Museum.
