Object Detail

Discovered concealed below a floor board, these hand carved wooden toy soldiers and horses were found on the first floor of Stirling Palace during refurbishment in 2009. The soldiers are dressed in red jackets and busbies, similar to those worn by some units of the British Army in the mid-19th century at a time when Stirling Castle was an important military base. They may have children’s toys, or used by adults for gaming.
