Object Detail

This medieval bone thread picker was found at Linlithgow Palace. Made of animal bone this would have been used as a weaving implement probably in conjunction with a weaver’s batten used for beating the weft threads closed after each throw of the loom. Sometimes when this is done a thread catches, particularly with wool, and this small pick would have been used to push the individual thread in place.
