Photographed by a fellow employee, John Marshall is seen carrying a cotton lap in the carding room at Stanley Mills circa 1960s. The carding machines to his left were used to open and straighten the cotton fibres prior to doubling and spinning. The process created noise, vibration and dust. Cotton production continued at Stanley Mills until March 1989.
