Charles Ewart, sergeant in the Royal North British Dragoons, is depicted capturing the standard of the French 45th Regiment at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. The eagle from the standard is on display in the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Museum in Edinburgh Castle. His grave is marked by a granite block on the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle. Oil on canvas, by Richard Ansdell (1815-1885), mid 1800s. On loan from the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
