Object Detail

Narrow gauge cotton tapes were produced on these looms at Stanley Mills from the 1930s to 1976. This specialised product was used in the tabacco industry for conveying cigarettes during their manufacture. It was so highly profitable and the women in the Tape Weaving Department were required to work behind blocked up windows to keep the production methods secret. On display at Stanley Mills, Perthshire.
