Object Detail

Marie de Bourbon double tournois, 1608-27. This coin has a very worn surface on both sides resulting in loss of shape at the edge and flattening of design. The obverse shows a cross in a quatrefoil at the centre, with a illegible inscription. The reverse depicts three fleurs de lis, with an illegible inscription.

Possible evidence of clipping is evident at the edge of this coin. Clipping was the illegal act of cutting the edges of coins to steal the valuable metal.
