Painting: Sergeant A Lawrence of the Dumbarton Volunteer Rifle Corps
Sergeant Lawrence won the Queen’s Prize at Wimbledon in 1882. Regarded as one of the most prestigious shooting prizes, he was the only member of the Dumbarton Volunteer Rifle Corps to do so. He is shown wearing the full rifle uniform of the Corps which changed to Highland dress in 1887 and the Queen's Gold Medal badge on his left arm. Dumbarton Castle, which later became the headquarters of the 9th Battalion of the Dunbartonshire Territorial Forces Army, can be seen in the background.
