George III (1760-1820) national jubilee medal, 1809.
This British silver medal commemorates the fiftieth year of George III's reign.
The obverse depicts the left faced bust of the king, wearing a medal pendant with St. George salying the dragon. An angel is seated upon clouds, beneath rays, amid attributes of Time on the reverse.
The obverse inscription reads KING GEORGE III . ASCENDED THE BRITISH THRONE . OCT . 25 1765. Below the king's bust is the lettering NATIONAL JUBILEE . OCT . 25 . 1809.The reverse inscription is on the ribbons at design and reads 1760 GEORGE THE III REIGNS 1809, with LONG LIVE THE KING below.
This medal is by P. Wyon and was probably issued by James Bissett of Birmingham.
