Lochaber axe 1500s to 1700s. A type of staff weapon unique to Scotland thought to have originated from the West Highlands. It has a broad blade and hook that could be used for grappling an enemy on horseback. One of over 500 arms and armour that have been on display in the Great Hall, Edinburgh Castle, since the 1860s. On loan from the Royal Armouries.
