Object Detail

This lion formed part of a memorial, resting against the feet of a knight’s effigy. The lion’s head is missing but traces of its mane survive and its tail curls up over its back. Look for the remains of the knight’s feet.
This lion is probably heraldic – an emblem used to identify the family or individual. It could also represent courage.
