An oyster shell which was used as a paint pot. Ochre is still present on the inner surface. Associated with several grinding vessels that were found at the Neolithic settlement at Skara Brae, Orkney. The pigment (ochre) could have been used to adorn people and/or artefacts. On loan courtesy of National Museums Scotland.
